Norway, brakteat 1177-1202

Norway, brakteat dated 1177-1202, struck under King Sverre Sigurdsson. Patriarchal cross. Very Fine condition. Some of the edge is missing. Schive VIII:34. Most likely ex. Anders Andersen’s coin find in Dæli, Norway, 1840. This rather scarce type, largely originating from the Dæli hoard, was sold by the History Museum in Oslo during the 19th century. For that reason, export permits are generally considered unproblematic to obtain. 0,03 g.

Protocol no. 5880

On Norwegian coins dated pre-1537 export restrictions may apply. Brakteats from Sverre Sigurdsson have been exported with permission many times before.
