Reserved – Exceptional and Unique 17th Century Schraubtaler
Germany, an exceptional 17th century Schraubtaler composed of two Klappmützentaler coins, originally struck between 1507 and 1525 under Friedrich III, Prince-Elector of Saxony, in cooperation with his brother Johann and cousin Georg, Duke of Saxony.
The interior reveals a finely executed miniature oil painting on silver depicting a gentleman. Opposite, a handwritten note reads: “Margareta Tarmans Hofnung […]”, offering a glimpse into the personal significance of the piece.
The coin is housed in its original walnut case, lined with velvet. The case measures 78 mm in diameter. The interior reveals a remarkable fusion of numismatic craftsmanship and early modern portraiture, making this object a truly unique example.
